Registration has opened for the inaugural Canaan Valley Half Marathon and 10K run scheduled for Sunday, April 28, 2019.

The event will begin at Canaan Valley Resort in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands and travel along Route 32, with views of protected streams and bogs inside the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

“With relatively flat terrain surrounding the resort and an abundance of wildlife, not to mention the priceless views, increasing numbers of athletes have experienced the joys of running in this region,” said Steve Drumheller, general manager of the four-season state park resort. "Canaan Valley Resort has sufficient experience hosting athletically minded guests. For example, we offer skiing, golfing, paragliding, biking and hiking, just to name a few. We are thrilled to add distance runners to that list.”

The race begins and ends at the base of the Canaan Valley Resort Ski Area, consistently named one of the top five ski areas in America by World Property Journal and winner of Liftopia’s “Best in Snow” awards for the Southeast region of the U.S. Post-race awards and other festivities will also be staged at the ski area.

Canaan Valley Resort is also offering group discounts for lodge and cabin accommodations. Runners are encouraged to arrive in the valley a day or two before the race to enjoy regional festivities at the resort and at the nearby towns of Davis and Thomas.

Canaan Valley Resort is a four-seasons destination with a wide array of adventures and a variety of guest rooms and cabins. On-site activities include an 18-hole championship golf course, scenic chairlift rides, sporting clay shooting range, hiking and biking trails, bike rentals, resort boards, miniature golf, Eurobungy/climbing wall, Turtle slide and indoor/outdoor pools.

Canaan Valley Resort is in northeast West Virginia approximately 2½ hours from Washington, D.C., three hours from Pittsburgh and 2¾ hours from Charleston, W.Va.
