Rod Jones, a ski industry veteran with more than fifteen years of experience working in West Virginia and in the western U.S., has been appointed Director of Ski Patrol and Snow Sports at Canaan Valley Resort.

“Rod brings a wealth of experience and a contagious enthusiasm to Canaan Valley Resort’s ski operations, and we are very glad to have him on board,” said Sam England, general manager of Canaan Valley Resort. “The enhancements he is making to our ski school, guest programming and ski patrol operations are top notch and will certainly be noticed by guests this winter.”

England said Jones responsibilities will include managing the ski patrol and snow sports programming at the resort, which include a combined staff of 90.

Jones headed the mountain safety department for Colorado’s Keystone Resort for several years and spent approximately a decade prior to that working in the ski patrol at Canaan Valley Resort.

Rod Jones said, “I’m excited for the opportunity to provide our guests with a world-class experience, whether that be learning to ski or snowboard or offering assistance while they are enjoying the mountain.”

Jones said Canaan Valley Resort offers some of the best beginner terrain in the country and is the perfect place to learn to ski or snowboard. The resort boasts one of the most seasoned and skilled ski school staff in the region with individuals trained in providing instruction to not only children and first-time skiers/snowboarders, but also specific demographic groups, like women and seniors.

Canaan Valley Resort’s ski area is tentatively scheduled to open Dec. 11, weather permitting.
