A moderate 2-hour, instructional hike where we explore the trails, and fields and forests of Canaan Valley State Park to see dozens of trees and plants Mother Nature is growing just for you!

Led by Mark Chapin, a West Virginia Master Gardener & Master Naturalist. Meet at the Main Lobby of Canaan Valley Resort State Park at 8:00 am.

You’ll learn tree and plant identification, which plants are safe to eat, and practice the plant edibility test that helps keep you from eating the wrong plants. Find out what plants make the best “survival salad” and learn to process the most edible leaves, shoots, roots and nuts. We’ll also show you the best plants and trees for starting fire, finding water, making rope, or healing a wound. Bring water, rainwear, suitable outdoor clothes and sturdy boots/shoes. Conducted Rain or Shine. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Free to the Public.
