While it’s been unbelievably hot lately, life is still cooler up in the mountains. The forecast at Canaan Valley Resort in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands calls for temperatures in the 70s and plenty of sunshine.

Situated in a long, narrow valley with an average elevation of around 3,300 feet and surrounded by mountain peaks rising as high as 4,300 feet above sea level, Canaan Valley temperatures are consistently cooler than nearby cities.
The resort’s cool factor extends way beyond the lower temperatures, however.
“We’re continuously adding fun new ways to crank up the summer sizzle,” said Steve Drumheller, general manager of the four-season state park resort. “From guided naturalist hikes along wooded streams to a scenic chairlift to a mountain vista, our visitors will be able to find a cool adventure that is perfect for them.”
Drumheller added that the resort’s offerings may surprise some travelers who haven’t ventured to the valley in a few years. “A huge renovation a few years ago added new guest rooms, restaurants, a lounge and many new activities, and the resort’s offerings are now the finest and the friendliest in the region,” he said.
