DAVIS, W. Va., May 9, 2018 – The July 4 holiday is falling on a Wednesday this year, making it difficult for families to etch out a three- or four-day weekend. Canaan Valley Resort in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands is starting the celebration early so guests won’t have to take that extra vacation day or miss out on the holiday festivities.
The resort’s annual Windfest is scheduled to kick off on Friday, June 29 and will conclude on Monday, July 2 with free admission to a performance by the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
· Friday, June 29 - Activities get underway at 9 a.m. with a Bald Knob Hike featuring spectacular valley views followed by afternoon arts and crafts, wagon rides/marshmallow roast and a star-gazing party.
· Saturday, June 30 – Activities this day include an easy group hike at 9 a.m. along the Blackwater River Trail, kite-building workshop, jumbo and stunt kite demonstrations, wagon ride/marshmallow roast and a fireworks display in the nearby town of Thomas.
· Sunday, July 1 – Highlights of Sunday activities include a morning stream search with experts from the Nature Center, kite-building workshops and jumbo and stunt kite demonstrations.
· Monday, July 2 – The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra will begin at 5 p.m. at the amphitheater located by the Tube Park area. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own blankets and chairs.
