What to know before hitting the trails

Before you're on the mountain, it's important to know not only what you should expect, but also what is expected of you. To respect others on the trails, please review the rules, trail map, and mountain stats before skiing or snowboarding at Canaan Valley Resort.

  • Vertical drop: 850 feet
  • Number of trails: 26 *Additional trails available with natural snow
  • Number of lifts: 1 quad, 2 triples, and 1 magic carpet
  • Uphill lift capacity: 6,000 per hour
  • Grooming: nightly
  • Snowmaking: 100% - 26 trails
  • Average annual snowfall: more than 117 inches
  • Trail ratings:
    • 20 percent beginner
    • 36 percent intermediate
    • 44 percent advanced/expert

Your Seven-Point Responsibility Code

  1. Stay in control so you can stop or avoid people/objects.
  2. Avoid those ahead of you. They have the right of way.
  3. Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above.
  4. Before starting downhill or merging onto a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
  5. Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
  6. Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
  7. Know how to safely load

Mountain Safety & Policies

We fully expect the skiing and snowboarding season at Canaan Valley Resort State Park to be as thrilling as ever. Enjoying skiing and tubing while assisting us in keeping everyone safe on the mountain is everyone’s responsibility. By visiting our resort you are entering a high mountain environment. This means you may slip, fall, and experience rugged conditions such as snow, ice, water, rocks, branches, grass, trees, and uneven terrain. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

This is an active ski resort, please be alert of your surroundings. By entering this area, you are aware of the mountain conditions and are entering at your own risk.
